A new $30 million home improvement scheme has been released to stimulate the economy as part of the Territory Government’s Rescue and Recovery Package in response to COVID-19.
The scheme will help fast track around 5,000 screwdriver-ready projects in Territory homes. This means that projects are physical improvements to land and / or buildings, and repairs and maintenance services.
The scheme operates on a voucher system, with home owners receiving either:
- a voucher worth $4,000 if they contribute at least $1,000 of their own money, or
- a voucher worth $6,000 if they contribute at least $2,000 of their own money.
Homeowners and tradies are required to practice social distancing during the planning for and delivery of the renovation works. If either party is unwell, they will need to put the works on hold until either or both are well.
Solar PV panels and solar PV install is excluded from the Home Improvement Scheme eligible works, however, inverter upgrades, batteries and other electrical work that supports energy efficiency are eligible works under the Home Improvement Scheme.
Solar hot water systems are also eligible works under this scheme.
